Manufacturing Engineer – Recipe & Process Specialist (Upstream)

About the role

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer specialized in recipe and process engineering for upstream manufacturing using Single‑Use Technology. The role is based in Basel and supports the B91 Manufacturing Unit to ensure safe, high‑quality antibody production while collaborating with global development, innovation, and regulatory teams.

Key responsibilities

• Create, optimise and maintain upstream recipes and MES order templates.
• Support goods and raw‑material management.
• Generate change requests for DCS/PLS and MES systems.
• Investigate process deviations within the assigned scope.
• Collaborate on process‑flow, recipe and DCS/MES optimisation.
• Draft and update SOPs related to your responsibilities.
• Act as Subject Matter Expert during internal and external audits.
• Represent production in local and global governance bodies.
• Provide technical support to shifts and participate in on‑call duty in a GMP environment.

Required profile

• Vocational training as a Chemical/Pharmaceutical Technologist or a degree in Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering, Pharmaceutical Technology or a related field.
• 2–5 years of experience in biotechnological development.
• Strong understanding of GMP, quality and safety requirements.
• Fluent in German and English.

Required skills

• Automation systems experience (MES, SAP, Siemens).
• Recipe creation using Siemens PCS7 and Unicorn method.
• Knowledge of DCS/PLS systems.
• GMP compliance awareness.
