Mechanical Designer – Future Circular Collider (FCC)

About the role

The Mechanical Designer will join the Mechanical and Materials Engineering (MME) Group at CERN to contribute to the design, fabrication and testing of components for the Future Circular Collider (FCC). You will work on cutting‑edge superconducting radio‑frequency (SRF) equipment and other high‑energy‑physics hardware.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design‑office activities and coordinate with CERN-wide experts.
• Analyse functional specifications and define mechanical requirements.
• Perform structural and thermomechanical studies for assemblies, tooling and equipment integration.
• Create detailed 3D models and technical drawings (specification, manufacturing, assembly, as‑built).
• Prepare project documentation, technical reports, specifications and calculation notes.
• Support contract negotiations and follow up manufacturing, assembly and installation.
• Provide technical oversight to designers and draftsmen to ensure quality and compliance.

Required profile

• Strong passion for mechanics and experience in mechanical engineering for complex scientific equipment.
• Knowledge of pressure equipment, cryogenics, ultra‑high vacuum technology and sustainable design.
• Familiarity with safety, reliability and product lifecycle management in a high‑tech environment.
