Mechanical Engineer – CMS Innermost Region

About the role

You will join the CMS detector team at CERN to design, prototype, construct and integrate mechanical structures and services for the innermost region of the experiment. The work covers beam‑pipe supports, tracker bulkheads, luminosity and background monitors, and leads to installation and commissioning after the LHC Long Shutdown 3.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare 3‑D models and technical drawings and carry out thermo‑mechanical analyses of complex components and assemblies.
• Support component procurement and supervise the fabrication of mechanical parts, ensuring quality assurance.
• Lead the assembly of mock‑ups, prototypes and final support structures for the CMS innermost region.
• Assist with integration and testing of the Inner Tracker and Luminosity Monitors at CERN.
• Support and supervise colleagues from collaborating institutes during integration activities.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Proven experience designing complex mechanical components and assemblies using 3‑D CAD tools.
• Experience with structural and thermal simulations using finite‑element analysis.
• Background in construction, assembly and quality control of mechanical systems.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, international team.
