Mechanical Technician for Cooling System

About the role

The EP-ATL-PO section is preparing for the technical challenges of Long Shutdown 3 (2026‑2030). As an Electromechanical Technician you will support the installation, testing, commissioning and operation of complex cooling systems that use water, CO₂, nitrogen and other process gases.

Key responsibilities

• Remove, disassemble, and re‑assemble cooling system components.
• Manufacture, test and install piping, manifold boxes and related hardware.
• Perform maintenance, repairs, testing and modifications on major cooling equipment.
• Troubleshoot issues and develop repair solutions.
• Implement required safety measures on work sites.
• Prepare and carry out acceptance tests.

Required profile

• Initial experience in piping system assembly (max 2 years after graduation).
• Basic knowledge of cooling equipment and fluid handling.
• Some experience in metalwork and basic machining.
• Basic understanding of electrical wiring and system connections (plus).
• Eligibility: national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State, secondary education diploma, no prior CERN contract.
• Fluency in spoken and written English and willingness to learn French.

What we offer

• Fixed‑term contract of 24 months, extendable up to 36 months.
• 40 hours per week, fully onsite at CERN.
• Start date: 01‑August‑2026.
• Work in radiation areas, underground installations, with night/weekend/holiday shifts as required.
• Medical clearance required before contract confirmation.
