Mechanical Technician for the CMS ECAL Detector at LHC

About the role
The Mechanical Technician will support the upgrade of the electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) of the CMS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Working on‑site at CERN, you will handle fragile detector components, coordinate logistics, and provide technical assistance for maintenance and refurbishment activities.
Key responsibilities
- Provide mechanical support for all ECAL activities, ensuring safe handling of fragile Supermodules.
- Coordinate logistics of materials and equipment required for detector refurbishment.
- Act as the technical liaison between the CMS experiment site and the ECAL refurbishment team.
- Support detector maintenance, including cooling systems, mechatronic equipment, and instrumentation setups.
Required profile
- Higher Technical Diploma or equivalent experience in Mechanics, Mechatronics or a related field.
- Knowledge of cooling operation and maintenance, and experience in logistics coordination.
- Ability to read 2D/3D designs and manufacture mechanical parts accordingly.
- Experience with detector assembly, pressure testing, leak detection, and handling large fragile equipment.
- Strong teamwork, problem‑solving, and autonomous work habits.
