Middleware Engineer (80–100%)

About the role

The Middleware Engineer will join the central Middleware & Application Platforms team to operate, configure and optimise middleware platforms that support business‑critical applications.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, configure and optimise middleware platforms such as Open Liberty, IBM WAS, BAW, Tomcat and Node.js.
• Design, implement and maintain DevOps processes for platform lifecycle and application support, including CI/CD and GitOps.
• Collaborate with application developers, release managers and infrastructure engineers to integrate and configure applications.
• Troubleshoot complex middleware, performance and integration issues in test and production environments.
• Automate recurring operational tasks using scripting, configuration templates and Infrastructure‑as‑Code approaches.
• Contribute to continuous improvement, modernisation and security compliance of the middleware landscape.

Required profile

• Degree in informatics, computer science or a related field, or comparable higher education.
• 3–5 years of professional experience operating and engineering middleware platforms in production.
• Practical experience with release and deployment tools, preferably IBM DevOps Deploy.
• Strong ownership, quality focus and excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Very good English; German is a strong plus.
