Network & Security Engineer (pfSense / OPNsense)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Network & Security Engineer to manage, secure, and optimise our network infrastructure in a fully remote setting. You will work with pfSense and OPNsense firewalls, VPNs, routing and switching to ensure reliable and secure connectivity for internal and customer environments.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day network and firewall operations, including IPSec VPNs and firewall rule configuration.
• Design, document and deploy network environments for internal and customer projects.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting, deep‑packet analysis and resolve complex routing, switching and VPN issues.
• Configure IPv4, IPv6, dynamic routing protocols (e.g., BGP) and Dell switch infrastructure, including Proxmox environments.
• Develop basic network automation using Ansible, Python or Bash.
• Collaborate with the SOC to analyse firewall logs, investigate security events and mitigate incidents.
• Participate in rotating NOC/SOC duty schedule covering nights, weekends and public holidays.
• Train and onboard new colleagues, sharing technical knowledge.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of professional experience in network and security engineering.
• Fluent in English and Spanish; German is a plus.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends and public holidays.
• Independent, structured and proactive working style with strong documentation habits.
