Payroll Staff Accountant

About the role

The Payroll Staff Accountant will manage Clarke’s bi‑weekly, multi‑state payroll operations. Working fully remotely, you will ensure accurate processing, compliance with grant and tax requirements, and timely reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Review timesheets for policy compliance and grant management, contacting supervisors for corrections.
• Update payroll records for compensation changes and verify employee‑submitted updates.
• Process bi‑weekly payroll for all employees using Paylocity.
• Prepare and submit required state and federal filings, as well as grant‑related reports.
• Handle employee expense reimbursements and post payroll entries to the General Ledger and tracking spreadsheets.
• Respond to employee inquiries, resolve payroll issues, and support audits (financial, benefits, funder, workers’ comp).
• Assist with month‑end close, generate accounting reports, and perform reconciliations.
• Maintain knowledge of payroll and tax regulations and cross‑train with other finance functions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field (preferred).
• Experience processing multi‑state payroll (required).
• Familiarity with fund accounting and grant reporting (preferred).
• Strong attention to detail, discretion, and ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• Paylocity payroll platform.
• Financial Edge General Ledger system.
• Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP.
