Photonics Design Engineer

About the role

EDWATEC SA is a high‑tech startup developing advanced photonic integrated circuits. We are looking for a motivated Photonics Design Engineer to lead the development of our erbium‑doped PIC platform, turning concepts into fabrication‑ready designs.

Key responsibilities

• Simulate, design and optimise PIC components such as couplers, resonators and gain sections.
• Develop the erbium‑doped PIC process design kit (PDK) with parametric cells, compact models, design rules and documentation.
• Create fabrication‑ready GDSII masks, verify layer mapping, connectivity and design‑rule compliance.
• Automate simulation, layout and verification workflows in Python and maintain version‑controlled design libraries.
• Validate simulations against measurements and evaluate fabrication tolerances together with process and testing teams.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or PhD in physics, electrical engineering, photonics or a related field.
• Experience in photonic integrated circuit design from component simulation to mask layout.
• Strong Python programming skills and hands‑on experience with gdspy, Luceda IPKISS or GDSFactory.
• Experience with FDTD and FEM simulations of photonic devices.
• Excellent English, attention to detail and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
