Postdoctoral Researcher in Microwave Remote Sensing for Water Systems

About the role

The Remote Sensing of Water Systems group, a joint professorship at the University of Zurich and Eawag, is looking for a motivated, creative and team-oriented postdoctoral researcher in microwave remote sensing with a strong interest in water systems. The group uses remote sensing technologies (optical, thermal, microwave, sound) from in situ to airborne to satellite sensors to study water systems across terrestrial and aquatic environments. The position is based in Zurich.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research in the field of microwave remote sensing of water systems
• Collaborate in interdisciplinary research projects
• Publish and communicate scientific results
• Teach and supervise BSc, MSc and PhD students
• Contribute to fundraising activities

Required profile

• PhD in remote sensing, physics, geography, environmental science or a related field
• Substantial experience with satellite-based microwave remote sensing (SAR, GNSS transmissivity and reflectometry, active or passive microwave, altimetry)
• Interest in in situ and drone-based approaches
• Ability to link signals with processes and applications, and appreciation of multi-sensor approaches for water-related applications
• Excellent written and verbal English; German preferred

What we offer

• Salary of 100,000 to 110,000 CHF
• Fully funded position for initially one year, with extension possible
• Start in February 2027 or upon agreement
