Principal Engineer – Electro‑optical Signal Integrity
Marvell Technology · Adliswil
Job description
About the role
Marvell is looking for a Principal Engineer to lead electro‑optical signal integrity for next‑generation optical engines. You will work at the intersection of silicon photonics, advanced packaging, and high‑speed electronics, shaping the architecture of AI‑focused data‑center infrastructure.
Key responsibilities
- Define, simulate, and drive the architecture of high‑frequency electrical interfaces (400G/lane CPO and beyond).
- Lead signal‑integrity strategy across electrical and electro‑optical domains, influencing architecture, packaging, and system definition.
- Coordinate co‑design efforts among photonics, analog/ASIC, and packaging teams to optimise performance and power efficiency.
- Lead testing, characterisation, and qualification of components and integrated systems.
- Develop and validate end‑to‑end link budgets, correlating simulation and measurement.
- Analyse measurement data to identify limitations and drive design improvements.
- Conduct root‑cause analysis of complex signal‑integrity issues across electrical and optical domains.
Required profile
- Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, or a related field.
- 5+ years of industry experience in a high‑tech engineering environment.
- Strong understanding of RF/microwave engineering, signal integrity, high‑frequency circuit theory, interconnects, silicon photonics, and semiconductor packaging.
- Background in optical communications (coherent and/or IM/DD) or high‑frequency electro‑optical characterisation (>110 GHz).
- Hands‑on experience with electro‑optical device testing (modulators, photodetectors, lasers).
Required skills
- RF/microwave engineering
- Signal integrity analysis
- High‑frequency circuit theory
- Silicon photonics
- Semiconductor packaging
- Optical communications (coherent, IM/DD)
- Electro‑optical device testing
- 3D EM modelling (HFSS)
- High‑frequency circuit simulation (ADS)
- RF PCB design
- High‑frequency characterisation tools (VNA, AWG, PPG, oscilloscope, DCA, BERT)
- Python
- MATLAB
What we offer
- Opportunity to work on cutting‑edge silicon‑photonic technologies in a global leader.
- Collaborative, international environment in Zurich, a top quality‑of‑life city.
- Access to advanced research facilities and cross‑disciplinary teams.
