Process Engineer - Associate Specialist Downstream Operations

About the role

A leading global biotechnology company in the Lucerne area, operating a biologics manufacturing facility that develops and produces biologic drug substances for clinical programs, is hiring a Process Engineer (Associate Specialist Downstream Operations) via a temporary staffing agency. The role supports downstream manufacturing and GMP manufacturing of early-phase clinical therapies, working closely with cross-functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Set up, execute and troubleshoot downstream manufacturing processes under GMP conditions, ensuring compliance with GMP principles and EHS standards.
• Support continuous improvement and the introduction of new manufacturing technologies.
• Take part in non-GMP engineering runs and testing as required.
• Create and update SOPs and electronic master batch records, and review manufacturing and process transfer documentation.
• Support material management with SAP and take part in process sampling.
• Operational support during manufacturing campaigns and collaboration with manufacturing, quality and engineering teams.

Required profile

• Degree in Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering or a related field; preferred Bachelor's or Master's.
• 1-2 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, including in a GMP environment.
• German C1 and English B2+; willingness to work onsite and occasionally on call.
• Strong problem-solving skills and professional communication.

Required skills

• Preferred: hands-on experience with chromatography, virus filtration, UF/DF, formulation or fill & freeze processes.
• Familiarity with DeltaV, PAS-X and SAP manufacturing systems.
• Experience in biologics manufacturing operations.

The position is a 12-month contract, 100% onsite, 40 hours per week, with occasional on-call duties depending on the schedule.
