Professor of Hematology and Chief Physician

About the role

The University of Basel and University Hospital Basel seek a Professor of Hematology who will also serve as Chief Physician of the Department of Hematology, starting July 1, 2027 or by arrangement. The role combines academic leadership with clinical management of Switzerland’s largest allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation centre.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the medical, economic, organisational and academic management of the Hematology Clinic.
• Ensure high‑quality clinical services and continuous improvement in allogeneic and autologous stem‑cell transplantation.
• Foster collaboration with hematological diagnostics, the Basel Blood Donation Center, oncology and related departments.
• Provide advanced training for residents and senior physicians in line with SIWF standards.
• Direct a hematology research group, contribute to international study groups and promote translational research.

Required profile

• Board accreditation as a specialist physician in hematology (or equivalent).
• Extensive clinical experience in all areas of hematology and stem‑cell transplantation, including both allogeneic and autologous procedures.
• Proven record of research in clinical, translational or experimental domains.
• Significant leadership experience in an academic environment with organisational and economic competence.
• Proficiency in German or a commitment to acquire it within a reasonable timeframe.
