Programme Officer – Disaster Recovery (Temporary)

About the role

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is seeking a temporary Programme Officer to support its Resilient Recovery unit in Geneva. The role focuses on implementing and evaluating programmes related to recovery, reconstruction, “Build Back Better” and financing for disaster risk reduction.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and evaluate programmes and projects on recovery, reconstruction, rehabilitation and financing for disaster risk reduction.
• Monitor programme progress, analyse data, prepare reports and propose corrective actions.
• Conduct research, surveys and data‑visualisation to support Priority 4 of the Sendai Framework.
• Prepare background papers, analytical sections of reports and inputs for publications.
• Provide substantive support to meetings, workshops and field missions, including agenda setting and drafting summaries.
• Coordinate budgeting and funding activities, including programme preparation, progress reports and financial statements.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s) in business administration, management, economics or related field; or equivalent combination of first‑level degree and experience.
• Minimum five years of progressive experience in project or programme management, with at least two years in disaster risk reduction, recovery, reconstruction or rehabilitation.
• Fluent English (required); additional language such as French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese or Russian is desirable.
