Project Manager Primary Engineering – GIS Projects (80-100%)

About the role

Hitachi Energy's High Voltage Products unit, Gas-Insulated Switchgears (GIS), is based in Zürich-Oerlikon and develops and produces gas-insulated switching systems. As a Project Lead Engineer (80-100% full time), you will own the end-to-end execution of GIS projects, coordinating technical design, procurement and stakeholder interactions so that quality standards, budgets and deadlines are met.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and manage technical project plans aligned with customer requirements, industry regulations and internal processes
• Prepare and review engineering documents such as technical specifications, drawings, assembly instructions and material lists
• Act as the main technical contact for customers, internal engineering teams, suppliers and subcontractors
• Define material requirements, oversee procurement and check configurations for fabrication and assembly
• Track project costs and progress against deadlines, and take corrective action when needed
• Resolve technical issues, drive continuous improvement and ensure compliance with quality standards
• Provide on-site technical support during installation, testing and commissioning

Required profile

• Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or a related field
• At least 5 years of project engineering experience, ideally in GIS, power transmission or high-voltage equipment
• Strong analytical mindset and ability to solve problems efficiently
• Ability to coordinate across R&D, production, procurement and quality assurance teams
• Fluent English; German is a plus; occasional travel for meetings and site visits
