Project Manager Structural Engineering (80-100%)

About the role

Hitachi Energy's High Voltage Products business develops and manufactures gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) at its Zurich-Oerlikon site. It is looking for a Project Manager Structural Engineering to manage technical engineering projects in close collaboration with the project team in the Czech Republic, support projects through their lifecycle and lead technical discussions with internal and external stakeholders. The role is full-time and based in Zurich.

Key responsibilities

• Manage structural engineering projects from sales support and design through fabrication and on-site installation
• Take technical and commercial responsibility for project execution, ensuring compliance with standards, timelines, costs and quality targets
• Work with sales, project management, engineering teams and customers to define project requirements
• Act as the interface between GIS project engineering and structural engineering
• Lead and coordinate engineering activities with teams in Brno (Czech Republic), Chennai (India) and external partners
• Oversee supply chain activities for the procurement and fabrication of steel structures and platforms
• Review engineering deliverables, resolve technical and quality issues and support factories and site teams
• Share lessons learned, support root cause analysis and implement improvements

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
• 3+ years of experience in technical project management within civil engineering, ideally in steel structures, industrial plants, substations or energy infrastructure
• Experience with GIS projects or substation engineering is a strong advantage
• Strong communication and organisational skills, able to work in international, cross-functional teams
• Professional English; German or additional languages are an advantage

Required skills

• CAD tools (2D and 3D AutoCAD)
• Structural design standards and building codes (e.g. Eurocodes, AISC, EN 1090)
• Structural analysis software such as SCIA Engineer or STAAD.Pro is a plus
• SAP or similar ERP systems is advantageous
• Experience with BIM software such as Tekla Structures is beneficial
