Public Sector Solutions Intern (6 months, hybrid)

About the role

Swiss Re is looking for an intern in its Public Sector Solutions (PSS) team in Zurich. Over six months, starting ideally in January 2027, you will take ownership of specific workstreams, engage with public sector clients and stakeholders and help develop innovative insurance solutions, from parametric insurance projects to public tender strategies and client events. The internship is hybrid, with at least three days a week in the office.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct market research including stakeholder mapping, analysis of financial and loss histories, and identification of risks, trends and topics to support client outreach
• Gather and analyse public insurance tender information and support the development of the public tender strategy in select European markets
• Prepare and support meetings with cities, municipalities, governments and international organisations, including briefings, pitch materials, logistics, documentation and follow-up
• Take ownership of at least one innovative insurance project, such as a parametric solution for a municipality, coordinating with PSS Technical Sales, Reinsurance, Underwriting and Legal
• Support the end-to-end planning and delivery of a Swiss Re event for selected public sector clients in H1 2027
• Support ongoing business development, pipeline management and preparation of internal and external materials

Required profile

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Master's degree, preferably in economics, finance, business, public policy, political science, risk management or a related field
• Fluency in German and English, written and spoken
• Interest in climate and natural catastrophe risk and its intersection with public policy and financial solutions
• Previous experience in the public sector, ideally in disaster risk management or re/insurance
• Nice to have: familiarity with insurance, reinsurance or risk transfer concepts, including parametric insurance; knowledge of Italian or other European languages
