Research Engineer – Industrial PhD Candidate in Spray Combustion

About the role

Join WinGD as a Research Engineer and Industrial PhD Candidate focusing on spray combustion research for alternative fuels. You will work on experimental investigations of in‑cylinder processes in large low‑speed marine engines.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct experimental studies on injection behaviour, combustion and emission characteristics of alternative fuels.
• Plan, design and manage measurement campaigns, develop and maintain test facilities, and implement instrumentation, automation, control and data‑acquisition solutions.
• Develop data‑analysis tools, image‑processing routines and workflows for handling measurement data.
• Prepare technical reports, scientific publications and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Monitor international R&D activities, emerging technologies and scientific developments in the field.
• Supervise allocated project personnel such as engineers, trainees and students.

Required profile

• Minimum Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
• Knowledge of internal combustion engines and injection/in‑cylinder processes is preferred.
• Strong interest in data analysis, image processing and scientific programming.
• Flexible, open‑minded, good communication skills and ability to work in a multicultural, multidisciplinary team.
• Fluent in English; German is an advantage.
