Senior Accountant

About the role

Sparta is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its finance team in Geneva on a hybrid schedule. The role will own core accounting processes, drive efficiency through automation and AI, and support the company’s rapid growth in commodity trading.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the monthly financial close for all entities, ensuring accurate reporting and coordination with external accounting providers.
• Own and continuously improve the Procure‑to‑Pay process, including approval workflows, GL coding, system posting and payment runs, leveraging automation.
• Maintain Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable sub‑ledgers, perform reconciliations and use system integrations to reduce manual effort.
• Execute general ledger activities such as journal entries, recurring postings, balance‑sheet reconciliations, fixed‑asset accounting and cost‑centre analysis.
• Monitor treasury and cash management, track cash balances and liquidity across parent and subsidiary accounts.
• Manage employee expense processes end‑to‑end, using AI‑powered expense platforms for receipt matching and policy compliance.
• Contribute to finance projects, ERP enhancements and rollout of new expense‑management tools.
• Champion the adoption of AI and emerging technologies within the finance function.

Required profile

• Several years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a multinational environment.
• Strong analytical mindset with a focus on accuracy and timeliness.
• Proactive attitude toward process improvement and automation.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams.
