Senior Finance Manager

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Finance Manager to take full ownership of finance operations for a mission‑driven organization accelerating the global energy transition. This fully remote position combines strategic financial management, hands‑on accounting, and operational problem‑solving to support sustainable growth.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the finance function, ensuring accuracy, reliability and efficiency of all financial operations.
• Maintain bookkeeping, reconciliations, transaction tracking and comprehensive financial documentation.
• Process invoices, expenses and payments while upholding internal controls and compliance.
• Support monthly, quarterly and annual closing activities, reporting and internal financial tracking.
• Develop and maintain project and departmental budgets, and drive financial planning and forecasting.
• Manage cash flow, financial analysis, risk management and other strategic finance activities.
• Ensure compliance with German accounting and tax requirements in collaboration with external advisors.
• Oversee monthly payroll processes across internal entities and employer‑of‑record services.
• Collaborate with People, Administration, leadership teams and external vendors on finance‑related matters.
• Assist with audits, fundraising activities and financial documentation requests.
• Improve finance workflows, documentation standards and internal controls to create scalable solutions.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of experience in finance, accounting, controlling or related financial management roles.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and local compliance requirements.
• Proven ability to manage financial operations independently in a remote environment.
• Excellent attention to detail, organization and ability to handle confidential information.

Required skills

• Experience with accounting software such as Odoo or Datev.
• Proficiency in Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting.
