Senior Legal Counsel, R&D Legal EMEA

About the role

Johnson & Johnson seeks a Senior Legal Counsel to provide regional legal guidance and strategic support for clinical development activities across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The role advises R&D partners on early‑ and late‑stage trials, collaborative research and other initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal guidance on clinical development matters, including trials, investigator‑initiated studies and external collaborations.
• Conduct legal risk assessments, identify compliance considerations and advise on mitigation strategies for program and portfolio reviews.
• Draft, review and negotiate clinical research agreements, templates and related documentation, escalating complex issues as needed.
• Develop legal guidance, training materials and governance tools to ensure consistent, compliant support across EMEA.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders such as regulatory, IP, litigation, medical affairs and compliance to deliver comprehensive legal support.

Required profile

• Master of Laws (LL.M.) with excellent academic results.
• Minimum 7 years of legal experience, including at least 5 years supporting R&D, clinical development or life‑sciences organizations.
• Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical R&D regulations, GCP requirements and industry standards.
• Proven ability to conduct legal risk assessments and provide pragmatic, business‑oriented advice.
• Excellent communication, drafting and influencing skills, with experience working in multinational, cross‑border environments.
