Senior Maintenance Technician

About the role

The Senior Maintenance Technician is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and safe operation of Hinds County facilities, buildings, equipment, and fixtures. This supervisory position leads a team of lower‑level staff, ensures compliance with safety standards, and coordinates both in‑house and contracted maintenance activities.

Key responsibilities

• Perform skilled maintenance tasks including carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical work, and HVAC servicing.
• Operate and monitor boilers, heaters, and related appliances.
• Lead, train, and evaluate lower‑level maintenance staff; review completed work for quality.
• Estimate project resources, prepare cost estimates, and acquire necessary materials and equipment.
• Inspect facilities for safety hazards, report issues, and recommend corrective actions.
• Oversee contracted service providers to ensure compliance with agreements and county standards.
• Maintain simple records of time, supplies used, and work performed.
• Execute work orders, itemize tasks, and complete assigned duties efficiently.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED plus at least four years of relevant experience in at least one trade (plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical, HVAC, etc.).
• Minimum one year of supervisory or lead experience in a maintenance setting.
• Valid Mississippi driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Successful completion of pre‑employment drug/alcohol testing.
• Relevant professional certifications are desirable but not mandatory.
