Job description
Huawei’s vision is to enrich lives through communication and intelligent innovation. As a global leader in information and communications technology (ICT), Huawei drives breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, cloud computing and smart device technologies. Through its Carrier, Enterprise and Consumer business groups, the company delivers cutting‑edge network infrastructure, cloud and AI platforms, and industry‑leading devices.
Huawei supports 45 of the world’s top 50 telecom operators and serves one‑third of the global population, with operations in more than 170 countries and a workforce of over 200 000 employees. Huawei Technologies Switzerland AG contributes to this ecosystem through high‑impact research, with offices in Zurich and Lausanne focusing on High‑Performance Computing, Computer Architecture, Computer Vision, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Neuromorphic Computing, Wireless Technologies, Networking and related fields.
We are a unique team of innovative, diverse individuals who have come together from multiple backgrounds to create advanced computing architectures for wireless and AI systems. Our people are generalists who complement each other, sharing a common mission: driving fundamental research and innovation to achieve breakthroughs in future computing systems. The passion for exploring uncharted territory fuels our daily work.
**Your role**
We are looking for a highly talented senior researcher to explore novel System‑on‑Chip (SoC) architectures for next‑generation wireless systems (5G/6G, AI‑enabled edge). You will analyse key architectural trade‑offs, design hardware/software co‑optimised solutions and validate them with cross‑functional domain experts (RF, AI, software, system integration). Your work will directly influence Huawei’s product roadmap and contribute to scientific publications and patents.
**Key responsibilities**
- Conduct state‑of‑the‑art research on SoC architectures, focusing on performance, power efficiency, scalability and security for wireless and AI workloads.
- Design and prototype hardware blocks, micro‑architectural components and software stacks; evaluate them using simulation, emulation and silicon prototypes.
- Collaborate with RF, AI, networking and system teams to define architectural requirements and integration strategies.
- Publish research results in top conferences/journals and file patents to protect innovations.
- Mentor junior researchers and contribute to the growth of the research community within Huawei Switzerland.
- Participate in internal and external technical workshops, representing Huawei at academic and industry events.
**What we offer**
- A dynamic, multicultural environment in the heart of Zurich, with access to world‑class research facilities and a strong collaboration network across Europe.
- Freedom to pursue innovative ideas, with a clear path from research to productisation.
- Competitive compensation package, flexible working hours and a hybrid work model (onsite for lab work, remote for analysis and writing).
- Continuous learning opportunities, including conferences, training programmes and tuition reimbursement for advanced degrees.
- A supportive culture that values diversity, inclusion and work‑life balance.
**Profile**
- PhD (or equivalent) in Computer Architecture, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of research experience in SoC design, hardware/software co‑design, or related domains, preferably in telecom or AI‑accelerator contexts.
- Proven track record of publications in top conferences/journals (e.g., ISCA, MICRO, DATE, ICCAD) and patents.
- Strong expertise in digital design (RTL, Verilog/VHDL), hardware description, high‑level synthesis, and performance modelling.
- Hands‑on experience with simulation tools (e.g., Cadence, Synopsys), FPGA prototyping and software stacks (C/C++, Python, Linux drivers).
- Excellent analytical skills, ability to evaluate complex trade‑offs and communicate results to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken); German or French is a plus.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a fast‑paced, interdisciplinary environment.
If you are driven by curiosity, love tackling challenging problems and want to shape the future of wireless and AI computing, join us at Huawei Switzerland and make an impact on a global scale.
