Senior System Engineer (Server & Storage Infrastructure)

About the role

Rieter, a global supplier of spinning machinery and systems for the textile industry, is looking for a full-time Senior System Engineer in Winterthur. The role provides secure, stable and scalable IT infrastructure services for the company's global business needs, focusing on the on-premise server and storage hardware infrastructure. It covers architecture, design, implementation, operation, monitoring, standardization, lifecycle management and continuous improvement, and works closely with global IT teams, business stakeholders and external partners.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, operate and continuously improve global IT infrastructure services focused on server, storage, SAN, virtualization and Active Directory technologies.
• Manage physical and virtual server platforms, storage systems, SAN infrastructure and related data center hardware.
• Plan and execute hardware lifecycle activities such as technology refreshes, firmware and driver updates, capacity planning and end-of-life replacements, coordinating with external vendors.
• Provide second- and third-level support for server, storage, SAN, virtualization, Windows Server and Active Directory services.
• Analyze business and IT requirements and develop secure, scalable and cost-effective infrastructure solutions.
• Ensure compliance with configuration, security, operational and documentation standards.
• Automate recurring operational tasks with scripting and tooling, especially PowerShell.
• Collaborate with global IT teams, local IT organizations and external partners.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree, HF degree or equivalent in Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Systems Engineering or a related technical field.
• At least seven to ten years of professional experience in IT system engineering or operations.
• Strong experience with enterprise server infrastructure, virtualization platforms and management tools.
• Experience working with vendors, external service providers and globally distributed IT teams.
• Very good written and spoken English.

Required skills

• Storage and SAN technologies, including operations, troubleshooting, capacity planning and lifecycle management.
• Windows Server, VMware, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP and related Microsoft services.
• PowerShell scripting and automation.
• Infrastructure security: server hardening, patching, privileged access, secure configuration and monitoring.
• Microsoft Entra ID, hybrid identity concepts and Conditional Access.
