Short-Term Internship at CERN

About the role

CERN offers short-term internships for students in technical, engineering or administrative fields who are required or encouraged by their university to complete a practical training period. Interns join a team of experts and contribute to real projects that connect science, technology and innovation, learning new skills and exploring their interests. The internship lasts between 1 and 6 months and is fully onsite; the ideal start date is to be discussed.

Key responsibilities

• Support experienced professionals in their daily activities.
• Learn and apply new tools or methods relevant to your area of study.
• Contribute to small-scale projects under the guidance of your supervisor.
• Collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds in an international environment.

Required profile

• National of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State (currently Pakistani, Lithuanian, Latvian, Cypriot, Croatian and Turkish nationals are not considered).
• Pursuing a post-secondary degree (technical/administrative diploma, Bachelor's or Master's).
• Enrolled as a full-time student during the internship.
• Good knowledge of English or French.

Required skills

• Fundamental knowledge in your field of study.
• Curiosity, precision and a proactive attitude towards learning.
• Good communication skills and ability to work in a multicultural team.

What we offer

• A monthly net allowance of 1,593 Swiss Francs.
• Paid leave for contracts of 4 months or more.
• Depending on your role and criteria, possible benefits such as an installation allowance and coverage of travel expenses to Geneva.
