Software Engineer – Data Management for Rucio

About the role

Join the ATLAS Experiment team at CERN to develop and operate Rucio, an open‑source scientific data‑management system used by the world’s largest research collaborations. You will work on extending, integrating, and supporting Rucio to meet the upcoming High‑Luminosity LHC data challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Evolve Rucio’s transfer and policy engines for HL‑LHC scale.
• Improve usability, scalability and performance for the ATLAS Experiment.
• Participate in DevOps and operational activities for the ATLAS Rucio production deployment.
• Maintain core Rucio components and contribute to the broader scientific data‑management community.

Required profile

• Proven experience in software engineering for distributed, large‑scale, or data‑intensive systems.
• Track record of developing and maintaining production‑grade software.
• Experience with DevOps practices, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines and Linux‑based production services.
• Familiarity with scientific computing environments is an advantage.
