Specialist Teacher - Humanities (Geography & History)

About the role

St. George's International School in Clarens, Switzerland, is seeking a Geography and Humanities Teacher for the Senior School, reporting to the Head of Humanities Faculty. The post combines teaching Geography at IB, A Level and/or IGCSE levels with humanities at Key Stage 3, using engaging, inquiry-based instruction.

Key responsibilities

• Teach History, Geography, Business and/or Psychology, ideally at A Level and IB Diploma, with the option to teach IGCSE.
• Deliver the curriculum in an engaging, inquiry-based way that builds critical thinking, evaluation, research and extended writing.
• Prepare students for external assessments, including A Level and IB Internal Assessments and Extended Essays.
• Plan and lead fieldwork, trips and research projects with appropriate risk assessments.
• Support links with TOK and interdisciplinary learning, and help with pathway transitions, subject guidance and bridging work for A Level and IB students.
• Follow faculty assessment policies, write detailed student progress reports, attend parent-teacher meetings and cover classes when needed.
• Take part in team meetings, contribute to curriculum development, act as a pastoral tutor and offer an extra-curricular club such as Model United Nations, debating or a psychology society.

Required profile

• Proven experience teaching History, Geography, Business or Psychology at A Level and/or IB Diploma; experience across more than one subject or programme is an advantage.
• Degree in History, Geography, Business, Psychology or a related field, and a recognised teaching qualification.
• Previous experience teaching Senior School students (aged 15-18) and confidence managing diverse classrooms.
• C2-level English or native equivalent.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of A Level and IBDP assessment requirements, including NEA, IAs and EEs.
• Experience developing extended writing, source analysis and research skills.
• Assessment skills, planning skills and confidence integrating ICT into teaching.
• Commitment to continuous professional development.
