Student Internship in Device Development and Verification Engineering

About the role

F. Hoffmann-La Roche's global Device Development unit develops medical devices and combination products for its R&D portfolio, covering everything from product requirements to first commercialization. Within the department, the Verification Engineering Section generates and manages experimental and cGMP verification activities that provide objective evidence that medical devices and combination products perform according to patient and technical expectations. As an intern you will join this section, be assigned mentors and research and coordinate a significant project.

Key responsibilities

• Technical assessment and implementation of new equipment
• Assess parameters impacting primary packaging and device functionality
• Perform tests including statistical evaluation to assess method comparability and capabilities (proof-of-concept study, Design of Experiments)
• Develop test methods
• Summarise and present results
• Support practical testing for related projects

Required profile

• Enrolled Bachelor's or Master's student, or degree obtained within the last 12 months, in pharmaceutical sciences, physics, chemistry, engineering, materials science or a comparable subject
• First experience with measurement systems applied in medical devices, combination products or packaging systems
• Fluent spoken and written English
• Excellent documentation, presentation and interpersonal skills
• Good user skills in standard office IT packages

Preferred skills

• Demonstrable practical knowledge of laboratory hands-on work and developing test methods
• Experience in pharma or another closely regulated environment
• Numerical simulation of physical processes
• Statistical techniques and scientific writing
• German is an advantage

The preferred start date is 1 February 2027, and the internship lasts 9 to 12 months. Applicants should submit a valid certificate of enrollment or degree certificate, a cover letter and a CV; non-EU/EFTA citizens must also upload a certificate of mandatory internship.
