Teaching and Research Assistant (Architecture, 3 positions)

About the role

The Chair of Architectural Behaviorology at ETH Zurich's Department of Architecture is looking for three 40% fixed-term Teaching and Research Assistants, starting in January or August 2027. The chair studies architectural form through the lens of human and material behaviour, and teaches a second-year Design Studio of around 70 students.

Key responsibilities

• Teaching assistant (40%): teach architectural design and research, prepare materials and documents, support students in developing their projects, evaluate and grade them, and hold short input lectures and workshops; studio days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
• Research assistant (40%): carry out research on projects such as Window Behaviorology, Urban-Rural Commons, Housing in Switzerland and Architecture for Care, organise workshops and seminar weeks, help edit and publish books and arrange exhibitions.

Required profile

• Masters degree in architecture.
• Good knowledge of English and (Swiss) German; studios and research are mostly in English, German is needed for local collaborators.
• Solid knowledge of the Swiss architectural landscape, including construction, detailing and common regulations.
• Good understanding of architectural design practice and of the Swiss socio-economic, cultural, historical and political context.
• Residence in Switzerland, ideally in the Zurich area.
• Ideal but not required: 2-3 years of professional experience including work on execution plans, and knowledge of French or Italian.
