Trade Finance Automation Lead

About the role

Trafigura is looking for a senior Automation Lead to join its Trade Finance function in Geneva. This is a strategic, dual-profile appointment: the main mandate is to accelerate the team's adoption of AI, automation and modern tooling, while keeping operational credibility on the desk to understand workflows from the inside and drive sustained change. The role bridges Trade Finance operations and IT delivery teams.

Key responsibilities

• Own the Trade Finance technology and automation roadmap, prioritising high-ROI use cases across reporting, reconciliation, controls, credit workflows and document handling.
• Lead digitalisation projects end-to-end, from scoping and business case through to delivery, rollout and adoption, building robust business cases aligned with IT architecture.
• Partner with IT delivery teams, map and redesign processes before automation, prototype solutions and produce IT-consumable requirements.
• Develop reusable artefacts such as templates, playbooks and requirement patterns, and coach colleagues in prompt design, tool adoption and process instrumentation.
• Monitor external benchmarks from peer trading houses and Trade Finance technology providers, and ensure new tools are adopted with value measurement.
• Represent Trade Finance in cross-functional technology transformation forums.
• Handle day-to-day Trade Finance work: Letters of Credit under UCP 600, receivable discounting, borrowing base reporting, credit-limit management and collateral monitoring, supporting officers during peak volumes, audits and monthly reporting.

Required profile

• At least 7 years of experience combining Trade Finance or commodity finance operations with technology-driven transformation.
• Prior experience at a commodity trading house's Trade Finance function or at a Trade Finance fintech (Komgo, Contour, Traydstream, Enigio, Bolero, TradeSun or equivalent).
• Documented automation or AI projects personally led or co-led, with quantified outcomes.
• Background in technology-driven business transformation (business analyst, project or programme manager, super user, product or scrum lead).
• Hands-on, outcome-focused change agent comfortable challenging existing processes and navigating ambiguity.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of SQL; proficiency in Python or a low-code/no-code platform (Power Apps, Retool, Alteryx, UiPath, n8n).
• Familiarity with document intelligence/OCR, agent orchestration and LLM deployment models.
• Ability to specify integrations between trade systems (ETRM, TMS, GL, bank platforms) and to read system architecture diagrams and data models.
• Sound understanding of Trade Finance instruments and workflows; commodity trading flows are advantageous.
• Preferred: next-generation ETRM platforms (Atlas, Titan), AI risk/governance frameworks, AI quality-control mechanisms, Big 4 or MBB consulting background, and English and French or Spanish.
