VAT Manager

About the role

A well-established, internationally operating company based in the Basel area is looking for an experienced VAT Manager to join its tax function. You will own indirect tax matters across several jurisdictions, give VAT guidance to business and finance teams, oversee compliance, support period-end reporting and contribute to strategic tax initiatives. The role offers broad exposure to international VAT topics and regulatory developments.

Key responsibilities

• Provide VAT and indirect tax guidance to finance and operational stakeholders
• Assess the VAT implications of new business activities, transactions and market expansions
• Monitor changes in VAT legislation, regulations and case law and recommend actions
• Oversee VAT compliance and ensure timely, accurate filings across multiple jurisdictions
• Maintain relationships with tax authorities, external advisors and auditors, and coordinate VAT audits and inquiries
• Partner with finance teams during monthly, quarterly and annual closing
• Support documentation of indirect tax positions, registrations and compliance requirements
• Lead or contribute to tax projects and process improvements, and raise awareness of indirect tax risks

Required profile

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, Law, Economics or a related field
• Strong experience in VAT / indirect taxation in an international company, consulting firm or tax advisory environment
• Solid knowledge of European and international VAT regulations
• Experience managing VAT compliance across multiple jurisdictions
• Experience with auditors, tax authorities and external advisors
• Excellent written and spoken English; German is an advantage
