Wireless Software Engineer Intern

About the role

This 6‑month internship, starting around February 2027, offers the chance to work with Cisco's Wireless team on next‑generation Wi‑Fi software. You will collaborate with senior engineers on both kernel‑space and user‑space components for current and future Access Point platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to emerging Wi‑Fi standards such as Wi‑Fi 8 and 9.
• Develop and optimise open‑source wireless drivers and kernel‑space components.
• Improve hostap implementations for carrier‑grade stability.
• Collect and analyse performance data to guide architectural improvements.
• Leverage AI‑based development tools to accelerate design, prototyping and testing.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Strong academic record and proven proficiency in C/C++.
• Solid foundational knowledge of computer networking.
• Eagerness to tackle complex technical challenges in a collaborative team environment.

Required skills

• Linux kernel development or driver architecture.
• Familiarity with 802.11 standards and Wi‑Fi functionality.
• Experience with network protocol analysis tools such as Wireshark.
• Proficiency with version control systems (Git, Gerrit).
