Lecturer in Marine Science

About the role

The School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of New South Wales is seeking a full‑time Lecturer (Level B) to lead research and teaching in marine science. The successful candidate will join a vibrant, multidisciplinary community and contribute to national and international marine research initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct high‑quality research in fisheries science, biological oceanography, or related marine disciplines.
• Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in marine science and related subjects.
• Supervise research students and mentor early‑career researchers.
• Engage with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Our Future Oceans and other research centres.
• Develop collaborations with state, national and international policy bodies.
• Contribute to public communication of scientific findings.

Required profile

• PhD in Marine Science, Fisheries Science, Oceanography or a closely related field.
• Strong publication record and experience in securing research funding.
• Demonstrated ability to teach and supervise students at university level.
• Experience working with interdisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.

Required skills

• Expertise in fisheries science, aquaculture, or biological oceanography.
• Knowledge of marine biogeochemistry, nutrient cycling, and pelagic ecosystem dynamics.
• Ability to apply quantitative methods for marine resource management.
• Experience translating scientific research into policy recommendations.
