Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor – Intellectual Disability Mental Health

About the role

The University of New South Wales seeks a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor to lead research, teaching and clinical capacity building in intellectual and developmental disability mental health. This fixed‑term position will shape a translational, co‑designed research programme aimed at improving mental health outcomes for people with intellectual disabilities, including autism.

Key responsibilities

• Provide academic and strategic leadership for disability mental health research and education.
• Develop and deliver face‑to‑face and online teaching modules within the Discipline of Psychiatry and Mental Health.
• Collaborate with NSW Health, government agencies, healthcare providers and lived‑experience stakeholders.
• Mentor emerging researchers and supervise high‑calibre students.
• Contribute to policy influence, service development and evidence‑based practice.

Required profile

• MBBS/MD, PhD or equivalent with distinguished experience in psychiatry, psychology or related health discipline.
• Extensive experience in intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
• Proven record of high‑impact research and academic excellence.
• Demonstrated ability to work in co‑design with people with lived experience.
• Experience in recruiting and supervising graduate students.

• Academic Level C/D salary $155,000–$185,000 AUD plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading.
