Economic Affairs Officer

About the role

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is seeking an Economic Affairs Officer to support its mission of reducing disaster risk worldwide. Based in Geneva, the incumbent will work within the Inter‑governmental Processes, Inter‑agency Cooperation and Partnerships Branch, reporting to the Deputy Chief of the Branch.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor economic developments in assigned regions and identify emerging issues relevant to the UN agenda.
• Design and conduct economic studies, prepare analytical reports and draft policy recommendations.
• Develop proposals for development strategies, policies and measures for presentation to intergovernmental bodies.
• Support UN Country Teams, national governments and partners in accelerating access to financing and risk‑informed investment.
• Prepare speeches and briefing materials for senior staff.
• Provide substantive economic support to bodies such as the General Assembly, ECOSOC and Financing for Development forums.
• Represent UNDRR at international, regional and national meetings.
• Coordinate delivery of financing for disaster risk reduction catalytic activities.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in economics, development studies or a related field.
• Proven experience in economic analysis, policy formulation and report writing.
• Familiarity with UN processes, intergovernmental negotiations and disaster risk reduction frameworks.
• Strong analytical and communication skills, with ability to produce concise briefing material.
• Experience working with governments, UN Country Teams or multilateral partners is preferred.
