Financial Reporting Automation & Data Analytics Intern

About the role

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is seeking an intern to support the Budget and Finance Section in modernising financial reporting. The role focuses on automating Excel‑based reports, improving data quality, and exploring analytics techniques to enhance humanitarian finance management.

Key responsibilities

• Review existing financial reporting templates and propose improvements for structure, consistency and data quality.
• Redesign budget, expenditure and donor contribution reports using Power Query and Excel.
• Develop refreshable reporting templates that automatically update when source data changes.
• Create clear data‑transformation logic, naming conventions and documentation for ongoing maintenance.
• Validate report outputs against source data and official records for completeness and accuracy.
• Explore AI or advanced analytics to improve variance analysis, exception identification or narrative reporting.
• Prepare user guidance, SOPs and brief training materials for staff.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or completed a graduate programme, or in the final year of a bachelor’s degree.
• Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking) is mandatory; additional UN language is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel (formulas, tables, PivotTables, data validation) and Power Query.
