Junior Legal Counsel – Commodities & Shipping

About the role

Join a fast‑growing energy trading platform in Geneva as a Junior Legal Counsel, supporting traders, operators and senior leadership on commodities and shipping matters.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements including sale‑and‑purchase contracts, charter parties, trade finance instruments, memoranda of understanding and NDAs.
• Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting the energy and commodities sector, such as international sanctions regimes.
• Maintain and update internal policies and support KYC/on‑boarding procedures.
• Assist with compliance reviews and handle operational disputes related to quality, quantity, demurrage and insurance claims.
• Conduct legal research and analysis to support business decisions.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Law (MLaw); bar admission or equivalent qualification is a strong advantage.
• Academic or professional focus on international trade, commodities or maritime law.
• 1‑3 years of relevant experience in a trading company, shipping group or commodities‑focused law firm.
• Solid understanding of Incoterms 2020 and international sale contracts.
• Practical knowledge of shipping and maritime law concepts.
• Familiarity with trade finance instruments, including letters of credit.
• Full professional fluency in English and solid understanding of French.
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a fast‑moving environment.
