Public Information Officer – Social Media (TJO)

About the role

The Public Information Officer (TJO) will join the Media Outreach and Spokesperson’s Office at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva. Reporting to the Chief of the Office, the incumbent will lead the creation and management of high‑impact multimedia content across OHCHR’s social media channels.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and produce multimedia content for OHCHR platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ and emerging channels.
• Exercise journalistic and political judgment to make timely editorial decisions for multilingual social media posts.
• Plan and launch strategic outreach campaigns, coordinating with UN‑wide social media initiatives.
• Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enrich content and expand reach.
• Increase follower numbers, engagement rates and overall brand awareness for OHCHR.
• Monitor, analyse and report on social media performance, trends, sentiment and public opinion on human‑rights issues.
• Provide guidance, training and technical expertise to public information and human‑rights officers on effective social media use.
• Represent OHCHR in the UN social media communicators’ group and liaise with UN system focal points.

Required profile

• Demonstrated ability to conceptualise and implement international social media campaigns.
• Strong editorial sense with the capacity to assess political sensitivities.
• Excellent analytical skills for social listening, trend identification and impact evaluation.
• Proactive, collaborative attitude and experience working with diverse stakeholder groups.

Required skills

• Proficiency with major social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+).
• Experience in multimedia content creation and social media analytics.
• Ability to produce data‑driven, audience‑focused content.
