Assistant General Counsel, Privacy & Data Protection

About the role

The Assistant General Counsel will join Intuitive’s Legal, External Affairs and Privacy team, supporting EMEA operations and ensuring compliance with privacy and data‑protection laws across the EU, UK, Switzerland, Israel and other regions.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on all aspects of EMEA privacy and data‑protection regulations, including GDPR, emerging laws, sector‑specific rules and data‑protection authority actions.
• Guide product development and other teams on EMEA compliance for new and enhanced products and services.
• Provide legal guidance on clinical trials, R&D, data analytics, data‑related collaborations, HR, commercial contracting, cybersecurity and related areas.
• Collaborate with privacy team members to develop strategic, global privacy approaches.
• Develop and deliver privacy training across the organization.
• Handle data‑subject requests and queries related to Intuitive’s privacy practices.
• Build relationships and participate in professional privacy organizations.
• Promote and evolve a culture of privacy compliance throughout the company.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 + years of experience with privacy laws, particularly GDPR.
• Law degree (JD or equivalent) and active license in good standing.
• CIPP/E certification required; additional data‑privacy certifications a plus.
• Hands‑on experience advising functional teams on data‑privacy, digital law and AI technologies.
• Technology‑oriented background in life‑sciences, preferably medical‑device or product design.
• Strong analytical and problem‑resolution skills, balancing business needs with legal risk.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, capable of clear legal advice.
• Proven cross‑functional collaboration at various organizational levels.
• Fluency in English and at least one additional European language (e.g., French, German, Italian, Spanish).
