Automation and Electrical Systems Engineer

About the role

Windworks is seeking an Automation and Electrical Systems Engineer to define, integrate and validate the electrical architecture of its vertically‑axis wind turbines. You will work in a small multidisciplinary team, turning concepts into tested, field‑ready solutions for harsh environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design, prototype and validate the complete electrical system, including sensors, motors, generators, drivers, converters, inverters and rectifiers.
• Implement PLC‑based automation using platforms such as Beckhoff or Siemens and set up EtherCAT, CAN, Modbus communication networks.
• Dimension and select motors and generators, develop drive architectures and validate control strategies for position, speed and torque.
• Ensure grounding, surge and lightning protection, and comply with IEC 61400 and CE safety standards.
• Manage grid‑connection aspects such as anti‑islanding, synchronization, relays and protection, and produce structured technical documentation.

Required profile

• Approximately 5 years of experience in electrical architecture and automation systems for industrial applications.
• Proven ability to work autonomously, iterate rapidly and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong understanding of low‑voltage PCB design, signal acquisition and processing.

Required skills

• Electrical architecture design and validation.
• PLC programming (Beckhoff, Siemens) and industrial communication protocols (EtherCAT, CAN, Modbus).
• Motor and generator sizing, drive architecture and motor control implementation.
• Grounding, surge protection and compliance with IEC 61400 / CE standards.
• Grid integration, anti‑islanding, synchronization and protection devices.
