About the role
Destinus develops advanced unmanned aerial vehicles for defense and aerospace applications. As an Avionics Engineer you will define, integrate and verify the electronic systems of guided aerospace vehicles, taking ownership of avionics subsystems from requirements to flight hardware and contributing to the overall avionics architecture. You will work with the GNC, embedded software, systems, propulsion, mechanical and test teams.
Key responsibilities
- Contribute to the hardware and software architecture of the vehicle avionics and make trade-offs between performance, mass, volume, power, cost, reliability and schedule.
- Write and maintain avionics requirements, derive them from vehicle and mission needs, trace them to the design and support their verification.
- Select electronic components and avionics units, evaluating performance, environmental ratings, availability, lifecycle and supply chain risk.
- Define power needs, design power distribution, conversion, protection and management, and maintain the power budget.
- Integrate avionics with the flight computer, seekers, IMUs, actuators and sensors, defining electrical and data interfaces.
- Define telemetry and communication systems, selecting hardware, data links and protocols for vehicle, ground and test use.
- Design the vehicle interconnect and harness, selecting connectors, wires and shielding, and ensure EMC, mechanical and environmental compliance.
- Plan and run bench, integration, HIL and environmental tests, find and correct faults on real hardware.
- Write ICDs, design documents and test procedures, present and contribute to design reviews, and support flight-test preparation and field operations when required.
Required profile
- 2+ years of professional experience in avionics, electronics or embedded hardware development, preferably in aerospace, defense, automotive or a similar industry.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electronics or equivalent.
- Structured, detail-oriented and comfortable in a fast-moving, cross-disciplinary engineering environment.
Required skills
- Hands-on avionics architecture and requirements engineering (write, decompose and trace requirements).
- Analog and digital electronics, reading schematics and PCB designs; Altium is a plus.
- Component selection for harsh environments, including derating, temperature, vibration and shock.
- Power systems: DC/DC conversion, batteries, power distribution, protection circuits and power budgets.
- Interfaces and protocols: CAN-FD, Ethernet, RS-422/RS-485, SPI, I2C, UART; RF data links a plus.
- Harness design, connectors (e.g. MIL-DTL-38999 or Micro-D), shielding, grounding and EMC.
