Backend Software Engineer, Python

About the role

We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer with strong Python expertise to help build a service‑oriented platform that exposes advanced machine‑learning models to scientific users. You will work at the intersection of software engineering and protein science, turning complex biological data into scalable, cloud‑native services.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop a decoupled web application that serves ML models to end users.
• Architect storage and manipulation of biological sequence data, ensuring efficient representation of diverse biochemicals.
• Define and version APIs that interact with machine‑learning models.
• Provide technical leadership and uphold high‑quality engineering processes.
• Collaborate closely with biologists, ML experts, and scientists to understand domain needs.

Required profile

• Extensive industry experience building backend systems in modern cloud environments.
• Ability to work well in teams, communicate clearly, and contribute to a positive culture.
• Interest in applying software skills to biological challenges; prior biology knowledge is a plus but not required.

Required skills

• Python and its ecosystem (FastAPI, uv, ruff, pyright).
• Databases and big‑data systems.
• Production‑grade machine‑learning application deployment.
• Containerisation with Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes.
• Design of highly‑available, distributed cloud systems.
