About the role

Labakken School is seeking a dedicated child welfare educator or special education therapist to support students with complex and extensive disabilities, including autism spectrum disorders. This full‑time temporary position runs until 31 December 2026 with the possibility of extension.

Key responsibilities

• Provide individualized support and adaptations so students can participate fully in class and group activities.
• Take responsibility for students with special needs throughout the school day, including during the SFO (after‑school program).
• Plan and deliver tailored instruction during school hours and in the SFO setting.
• Contribute to the development of individual education plans (IEPs).
• Participate in internal supervision, professional development, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in child welfare (barnevern) or special education (vernepleie). Candidates with relevant experience may also be considered.
• Experience with students on the autism spectrum and those with developmental disabilities.
• Proven ability to prevent and manage challenging behaviour and to develop behaviour plans in a team setting.
• Strong communication skills in Norwegian, both written and oral.
• Systematic, structured, and able to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues, families, and external agencies.

Required skills

• Knowledge of alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) methods and tools.
• Familiarity with observation and assessment instruments for identifying student needs.
• Competence in conflict resolution and creating predictable, safe environments for students with regulation difficulties.
