CERN Courier Editor

About the role

The CERN Courier Editor will lead the editorial direction of CERN's flagship high‑energy physics magazine, both in print and online. Reporting to the Head of Content, you will ensure the publication remains at the forefront of particle‑physics research and public engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Define and sign off the strategic editorial line of the CERN Courier.
• Liaise with CERN scientists and the global high‑energy physics community to source and commission expert articles.
• Write, edit, fact‑check and proofread news, features and other content.
• Oversee picture research, visual selection and compliance with copyright.
• Manage and grow the cerncourier.com website and @CERNCourier social‑media channels.
• Supervise, mentor and develop the magazine’s editorial team.
• Collaborate with the remote production manager, in‑house marketing officer and other CERN departments.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent experience in particle physics or a closely related scientific field.
• Proven research track record in particle physics or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience in an editorial or communications role, with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
• Strong stakeholder relationship management and internal communication skills.

Required skills

• Web development (content‑management systems, website maintenance).
• Social‑media management and strategy.
• Graphics/design basics for magazine layout and digital assets.
• Strategic communications planning.
