Commodities Trading & Shipping Legal Counsel

About the role

Our client, a leading commodities trading and shipping firm based in Geneva, is seeking a Legal Counsel to support its trading and shipping activities. You will join a team of six lawyers and help manage the legal aspects of crude oil, refined products, metals, LNG and green fuels trading.

Key responsibilities

• Handle day‑to‑day legal matters related to commodities trading and shipping operations.
• Structure, draft and review commercial contracts and transaction documents.
• Manage claims, disputes and litigation arising from trading and shipping activities.
• Provide commercial legal advice across a range of commodity products.
• Collaborate with internal business units and external partners to ensure regulatory compliance.

Required profile

• Minimum of 3 years post‑qualification experience (PQE) in commodities trading, shipping or related maritime law.
• Experience gained in law firms, P&I clubs, or trading/shipping companies.
• Strong interest in a long‑term career within the commodities sector.
• Willingness to relocate to Geneva if not already based there.
