Computer Security Architect

About the role

As a Computer Security Architect you will join CERN’s Computer Security Office to strengthen the Security Operations Centre (SOC) and secure the laboratory’s external cloud services. You will work on open-source detection tooling and ensure that AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle and related SaaS platforms are configured according to best‑practice security standards.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, support and extend the SOC infrastructure built on Zeek, OpenSearch, Apache Kafka, Kubernetes and MISP.
• Configure newly‑contracted external cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure, Oracle) to maximise security controls and data protection.
• Review and improve the security posture of existing Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace SaaS configurations.
• Participate in additional security projects, provide consultancy and perform penetration testing as needed.

Required profile

• Degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Computer Science or related field, with up to two years professional experience.
• Experience in network design, communication protocols and system administration.
• Background in computer security, secure configurations, security analysis and cloud‑service penetration testing.
• Ability to work in English; willingness to learn French.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of Linux/UNIX, shell scripting and programming (Python and/or C).
• Familiarity with virtualization, databases and cloud frameworks such as Kubernetes.
• Hands‑on experience with security tools: Zeek, OpenSearch, Apache Kafka, MISP.
• Practical knowledge of AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud security features.
