Data Engineer – Process Analytics & Data Intelligence

About the role

Join the Process Analytics & Data Intelligence (PADI) team at Lonza in Visp to design, build, and operate production‑ready data infrastructure that connects process, execution, and development data for operational decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate automated data pipelines integrating file‑based stores, historians (PI), MES, ELN and instrument data into a coherent operational data foundation.
• Implement data quality checks, validation rules and monitoring to ensure reliability at scale.
• Deliver analytics‑ready datasets with clean schemas and consistent semantics to downstream BI and modeling layers.
• Collaborate with MSAT, Process Development, Automation, QA, IT and global data teams to align data models and integration patterns.
• Continuously improve pipeline performance, robustness and maintainability.

Required profile

• Proven experience building and operating production‑grade data pipelines in manufacturing or industrial environments.
• Strong SQL expertise and ability to design efficient data models for high‑volume workloads.
• Hands‑on experience with ETL/ELT development and integration of process, execution and operational data sources.
• Practical knowledge of OT systems such as MES or PI Historian.
• Understanding of data quality, lineage, traceability, governance and GxP compliance.
