Director, Country & Site Operations (CSO), Europe

About the role

The Director, Country & Site Operations (CSO) for Europe leads clinical trial delivery across multiple European countries, ensuring high‑quality execution, risk management and strong investigator engagement for Biogen’s portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership to Clinical Country & Site Leads and country/site resources, overseeing delivery, site performance and sponsor oversight.
• Partner cross‑functionally with CTDU, Clinical Development, Worldwide Medical, CRO/FSP partners and affiliate leadership to align country and site strategies with trial planning.
• Lead, coach and develop 5‑8 direct reports and matrixed teams, fostering accountability, innovation and sustainable workload management.
• Supply proactive country, site and operational intelligence to study teams, influencing feasibility, protocol implementation, enrollment forecasting and risk mitigation.
• Support country and site selection, enrollment planning and portfolio decisions through evidence‑based assessments.
• Drive implementation and continuous improvement of the CSO operating model, including IFM/SCOUT, and represent CSO in global initiatives.

Required profile

• 12+ years of clinical development or operations experience, with significant country‑facing and site‑facing roles.
• Proven leadership of multi‑country or sub‑regional clinical operations teams.
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, able to communicate with senior leaders and cross‑functional teams.
• Demonstrated people leadership, coaching, talent development and performance management.
• Ability to support financial and resource planning for an assigned sub‑region.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of global clinical trial operations, GCP, ICH guidelines and regional regulatory requirements.
• Experience translating country, site and investigator insights into operational strategies.
