Economic Affairs Officer – Temporary Position

About the role

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is seeking a temporary Economic Affairs Officer to join the Innovation and Research Coordination Unit in Geneva. Reporting to the Chief of the Unit, the officer will support analysis of economic shocks and contribute to policy‑relevant research.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain socio‑economic databases to monitor global and regional economic shocks.
• Apply and adapt econometric models to identify trends, patterns and policy impacts.
• Draft inputs for technical papers, analytical studies and speeches for senior staff.
• Collect and analyse policy proposals and attend international, regional and national meetings.
• Prepare inputs and summary reports for intergovernmental bodies and inter‑agency meetings.
• Undertake administrative tasks and on‑the‑job training as required.

• Demonstrated professionalism with the ability to apply economic theories across sectors.
• Strong research skills, including independent analysis of data from diverse sources.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
