Electro-Mechanical Technician – HTS Cables & Coils

About the role

You will join the High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) group to develop HTS cables and coils. The position involves designing, assembling, commissioning and operating winding and cabling machines that produce HTS cables using REBCO tapes. CERN will provide full training, so curiosity and eagerness to learn are essential.

Key responsibilities

• Perform quality control and precise measurements on REBCO tapes.
• Assist in qualifying the mechanical properties of REBCO tapes.
• Create wiring diagrams, program PLCs and commission electro‑mechanical systems.
• Support integration and use of REBCO tapes in HTS coils and cables.
• Participate in the operation and maintenance of winding and cabling machines.

Required profile

• Maximum two years of professional experience after graduation in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
• National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
• Never held a CERN fellow or graduate contract.
• Fluent in English or French, with willingness to learn the other language.

Required skills

• Experience in electrical testing or material testing.
• Ability to read and draw circuit diagrams.
• Knowledge of PLC programming and electro‑mechanical commissioning.
• Familiarity with instrumentation and data acquisition.
• Experience in cabling, commissioning of electrical cabinets or machines (advantage).
• Mechanical assembly skills (advantage).
